Jamal Browner (110KG) Deadlifts 1,014 Pounds for a Rep and a Half In Training

Powerlifter Jamal Browner currently holds the second-heaviest raw deadlift ever pulled in the 110-kilogram weight class at 460 kilograms. His prowess in the deadlift is so notable that he competed against elite strongmen in the 2023 World Deadlift Championships.

On July 20, 2024, Browner showcased his continuing strength increases in an Instagram post, wherein he attempted a new personal record of 1,014 pounds (460 kilograms). For those keeping track, that means Browner attempted to match his second-heaviest deadlift ever pulled for a double and got 75 percent of the way there. Check it out below:

Executing 1,000-Plus-Pound Deadlifts 

Browner aligned the middle of his feet directly beneath the barbell with his toes slightly pointing out. He assumed a wide sumo stance, executing his hip hinge with a neutral back. He used an overhand grip while wearing a lifting belt and straps.

Browner assessed the bar’s weight and braced his core. Due to the heavy load on each end, the barbell bent during his ascent. Browner achieved full extension and successfully locked out his first rep.

After establishing his brace again, Browner initiated his second rep. It started shakey and Browner was unable to pull the barbell past his knees, forcing him to release the bar. Disappointed, Browner unhooked his belt and remarked, “I’m getting old.”

I’m tired. My body hurts.

Browner shared his need for a deload week and that he napped for five hours following his training session.

There was potential it wouldn’t go well. I wanted to test my limits. This has been one of my worst training weeks.

Given that Browner is capable of pulling over 1,000 pounds successfully during his “worst training week,” it likely won’t be long until he finds his groove in the gym again. He is eight kilograms shy of reclaiming the all-time world record deadlift in the 110-kilogram class from Danny Grigsby.
