Commentary

The judges frequently moved the members of the first callout, but Banks and Terry ended in the middle of the comparison. There were frequent switches during each callout’s comparison.

The last callout matters most, and Terry was in the center with Ali Bilal, meaning they are in the lead going into the final.

The top 10 from pre-judging advance to Resorts World in Las Vegas for the finals on Saturday night. BarBend will provide updates throughout the evening. Fans can watch from home via the live stream available on the Olympia Productions website.

The Play-by-Play

The crowd was significantly larger and louder than Friday’s Prejudging. NFL legends Shannon Sharpe and Shaun Merriman were present.

Queiroz had many supporters in the audience, as expected. Bumstead’s fans cheered the loudest as he took the stage, and, as expected, he was in the middle of the first callout. Urs Kalecinski and Mike Sommerfeld flanked him. They were sent back in line, indicating them as the top three in the field. This was confirmed when they were brought out for the final callout.

The final round for Classic Physique is part of the Saturday night show at the Resorts World Theater in Las Vegas. The top 10 will battle for the title of world champion.

Chris Bumstead Ducks Retirement Questions at 2024 Olympia Press Conference

Chris Bumstead is the talk of the town — in Las Vegas, at least. The 2024 Olympia, which runs in Sin City from Oct. 10 to 13, is bodybuilding’s biggest and most prestigious contest. It’s also the site of “CBum’s” prospective sixth Classic Physique title.

Bumstead, who first won in 2019 and every year since, is the most famous active bodybuilder on the planet.

As the 2024 Olympia closed in, rumors began to circulate that Bumstead would announce his retirement during or shortly after the big day.

Bumstead was asked point-blank about his post-Olympia career plans during the event’s press conference on Thursday, Oct. 10. He ducked the question, sort of.

Chris Bumstead on Retirement at the 2024 Olympia

Bumstead puffed his chest at the presser while seated with the leading men of the Classic Physique and Open divisions, including current Mr. Olympia Derek Lunsford.

“I’m not sure they even believe themselves,” quipped Bumstead when asked whether he believes in his competitors’ declarations about taking his Olympia title. “Every year it’s been someone different, but in my mind they’re all battling for second.”

[Related: Best Pre-Workout Supplements]

But it was a question on his post-Olympia prospect that proved the most illuminating for fans of the five-time champ. Olympia host Bob Cicherillo jabbed Bumstead with a specific question on his would-be retirement:

Cicherillo: “The rumor mill is swirling … if you win the title this weekend, is that it?”

Bumstead: “I think since 2020 I’ve been telling people I have one more left in me. I won last year, and I’ve got to put in the work to win again this year. That’s all I’m focusing on.”

Bumstead added that he feels he has “more in him if he wants it,” but offered no further specifics.

Bigger Than Bodybuilding

Since his emergence as the face of bodybuilding’s most exciting new division, Bumstead has grown into more than a professional physique athlete. Boasting nearly 25 million followers on Instagram alone, Bumstead’s fame goes a long way toward buoying the sport as a whole.

That said, the champ has repeatedly implied that his days as an Olympia competitor — unlike many of his colleagues, Bumstead only competes once a year — may be winding down.

Bumstead and partner Courtney King welcomed their first child, Bradley, in April.

In September, Bumstead announced a significant move toward entrepreneurial pursuits by taking a partial ownership stake with athleticwear brand Gymshark.

Bumstead operates his own gym, RAW Athletic Club, in addition to a supplement and meal prep line.

The 2024 Olympia may be Bumstead’s swan song. Speculation abounds, which puts eyeballs on Bumstead and the Olympia expo as a whole. It’s in the interest of all parties to leave the door open — fans will know before long whether CBum has decided to step across the threshold.

15 Men’s Open competitors were greeted on stage, including three past champions: Derek Lunsford (2023), Hadi Choopan (2022), and Brandon Curry (2019). After they took their time onstage, it was time for callouts and comparisons.

The Play-by-Play

As a whole, event commentators remarked on how strong the field looked as pre-judging kicked off.

Lunsford, Choopan, and Dauda were in the center of the first callout, replicating the top three from 2023. Lunsford started in the middle, but Dauda shifted in for another round of poses.

Those three had the final callout to themselves. Lunsford started in the middle, then Dauda, and then Choopan held the center spot between his two rivals to close the evening.

Fans were left to wonder if Lunsford did enough to defend the crown. The event commentators remarked that his posing and posture improved as pre-judging progressed.

Commentators remarked on the strong showing from freshman Martin Fitzwater, who made first callouts on his Olympia debut. Jacked played his enormous stature to his advantage, while Labrada held strong with exceptional conditioning.

Missy Truscott Wins 2024 Fitness Olympia

The 2024 Fitness Olympia finals were held at Resorts World Theater in Las Vegas, NV, on the evening of Oct. 11, 2024. Earlier in the day, the 12 contestants were compared in the Physique round, which counted for one-third of their score.

Missy Truscott and Tamara Vahn seemed to be the top two after pre-judging. When the dust settled, Truscott had bagged the gold.

The second half of the competition was the Performance round, which accounts for two-thirds of each athlete’s overall score. All 12 athletes entertained the live crowd with their unique routines.

The Play-by-Play

With 2023 champion Oksana Grishina out, we were guaranteed a new champion. 2024 Arnold Classic UK winner Jaclyn Baker paid tribute to Vegas Showgirls with her performance.

2023 Olympia runner-up Taylor Learmont had her supporters in the audience, and she wowed them with her fast-paced routine that looked effortless.

Tamara Vahn paid tribute to iconic singer Tina Turner and got the crowd going, with fans bobbing their heads while watching the performance.

Fans waited with bated breath when Truscott came out. One year ago, she suffered a knee injury during her performance. She dressed as a Spartan and performed like a gladiator while sporting a sparkling knee brace.

Once the judges’ scores were tabulated, announcer Bob Cicherillo revealed the top five —the top three earn automatic qualifications for the 2025 Olympia.

Cydney Gillon Retires After Winning 8th Figure Olympia

The 2024 Figure Olympia, which concluded on Oct. 11, 2024, was similar for those who have watched bodybuilding’s world championships for most of the past decade: Eight-time champion Cydney Gillon wins in dominant fashion. And she did.

After winning her eighth consecutive championship in Las Vegas, NV, Gillon took the mic from announcer Bob Cicherillo and relayed that this was her farewell from competitive bodybuilding.

[Related: Best Pre-Workout Supplements]

With her eighth victory secured, Gillon retires on a high note, tying Lee Haney and Ronnie Coleman with eight Olympia titles. However, she still trails Iris Kyle, who won 10 Ms. Olympia titles throughout the 2000s and 2010s.

Cydney Gillon: The Figure G.O.A.T.?

The Women’s Figure division has been a battle for silver for almost a decade, thanks to Gillon. Beginning in 2017, Gillon established a run at the “O” that most competitors, in Figure or otherwise, could only dream of.

Gillon has mostly opted to compete solely at the Olympia each year, though she has several Arnold Classic Figure wins to her name as well during her tenure at the top of the category.

[Related: Best Multivitamins for Women]

While she bowed out gracefully on stage, Gillon did not specify what her post-bodybuilding plans would be. In 2016, Gillon had a brief stint as a reality television contestant during a season of Survivor: Kaôh Rōng, where she finished in fourth place.

If Gillon can bring her Olympia A-game to her next pursuit, we’re sure she’ll set forth another dynasty to be proud of. BarBend congratulates Gillon on a spectacular career.
